Before you answer that, ask some of the people in your life.
Sometimes we think we are good at keeping our word and doing what we say we will but that isn’t how others see it.
I have someone in my life who thinks she is good at keeping her word. It is important to her that she does. But, from my point of view she doesn’t.
In NLP, one of the basic principles we work from is that everyone is doing that best they can. I know that this person in my life is doing the best she can. And, my perception of her keeping her word is very different than hers is.
Believe what others’ experience and take responsibility for that perception.
I had someone tell me a few years ago that we judge ourselves on our intentions and others on their actions. We need to reverse that and take an honest look at our own actions. Are they truly lining up with our intentions and who we think we are?
It is important to me to be a person people can rely on and trust. Afterall, I am a coach. I wouldn’t have much credibility or trust from my clients if they couldn’t count on me to show up and hold them accountable.
Are you willing to find out what the perception is from the people in your life about whether they see you as someone they can count on? It could be a very revealing experiment.
In coaching, we provide a forum for you to practice showing up, making commitments, and following through.
Coaches provide a safe place for you to practice making promises and keeping them with yourself and the people around you.
What would be possible in your life and business if you and everyone in your circle of influence could be counted on to do what you say you are going to do? Imagine what that would be like, to know that you could count on them and they could count on you.
