The coaching process creates an interesting dynamic between coach and client.
The best way coaching was described to me — and something I intuitively feel — is that coaching is like a dance. Sometimes the coach leads, sometimes the client leads and sometimes both coach and client lead and follow together (that’s when the real magic happens).
Ultimately coaching is about trust – the client must trust the coach to guide, give feedback and provide new insights. The coach must trust that the client is ready, willing and engaged in the process.
One of my favorite client success stories involves a real estate agent working in Manhattan. This was back in my Elevator Pitch Dr. days when I helped people identify their ideal client and unique selling proposition.
After one 2-hour session, he became confident and clear on who he wanted to work with and the value he provided to his clients.
I ran into him at a networking event a few days later and he told me he had four new clients!
Coaching does not always have to be a long-term relationship. Some of the biggest shifts I’ve seen happened as quickly as one “Remove a Limiting Belief’ session!
